Hoodoo Gurus WWWebcast

YES! WE’RE GOING GLOBAL FOLKS!!

This Sunday, 15 April at 10AM (AEST), the HOODOO GURUS are gonna be set up in Sony Studios in Sydney and streaming live over the internet for three hours.

We’ll be ready to answer your questions on camera and will be able to play your song requests INSTANTLY. From your keyboard to our ears and then right back at ya! Ain’t technology grand?

Post your questions and song requests “next door” at our Facebook page (look over there —->). I’ve also made a “ready reckoner” to help you figure out what time (and date) it will be for YOU wherever you are in the world when we go “live” online. I’ll attach that and other links you may need at the bottom of this post.

Set yourself a reminder alarm, make a strong coffee and turn on your computer this weekend to participate in THE GREAT GURUS FREE-FOR-ALL. We’ve been hard at work rehearsing and we believe we’ve prepared ourselves well enough to play whatever Gurus obscurity your heart may desire. Come on, test us out - I dare you!

It’s all-Gurus, all-live and, yes, it’s all-happening this weekend.

Dave

‘Gold Watch’ track-by-track continues.

AND THE HITS KEEP COMIN’!

We’re still buzzing about the latest ‘Dig It Up!’ announcement (see below) but, meanwhile, here’s another of my behind-the-scenes clips - this time with the story behind ‘Wakin’ Up Tired’ from our 1996 album ‘In Blue Cave’. As usual, look for it in our Facebook panel at the right. Another one will be posted there in a couple of days with more to follow soon.

‘Dig It Up!” gets even bigger.

I’ve just posted the third episode of the ‘Gold Watch: 20 Golden Greats’ track-by-track (“next door” on our Facebook panel).

Today Feel Presents issued a major update about the expanded Melbourne and Sydney ‘Dig It Up’ events. I’ll post it here in total:

Dig It Up! Melbourne Expands

Sydney Adds Mystery Band.

Dig it Up! the ever-evolving series of national concerts curated by the Hoodoo Gurus and conceived by Feel Presents, continues to roll out the surprises with the announcement today of two new participating venues for Melbourne and a mystery act confirmed for Sydney.

The Pony Bar in Melbourne (68 Little Collins St and a short 5 min walk from The Palace) will open it’s doors at the earlier than normal time of 3.00pm on Anzac Day playing host to Hoodoo Gurus’ compadres Kim Salmon and Spencer P. Jones as well as young Geelong act The Murlocs. Kim and Spencer will perform a solo set each as well as a double act while The Murlocs (featuring Broderick Smith’s young son Ambrose on vocals and harmonica) will perform a set of their blistering r’n’b. Get in early!

A revolving cast of local celebrities will also DJ at Pony during the day while in the Palace main room featured DJ’s will include Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring) among others.

And as it is with Sydney, the Melbourne Dig it Up! will now house a venue dedicated to comedy when the Spleen Bar (41 Bourke St and across the road from the Palace) opens it doors with featured comedians and fellow rock tragics Dave O’Neil, Andrew Goodone and CJ Fortuna.

Good enough for ya?

Sydney meantime, has snared seminal act Kids in Dust to complete the line-up of live activity. Kids in Dust performed just once, appearing at the Sydney Trade Union Club in the early 1980’s, but appeared many other times under another name. Dig It Up! is sworn to secrecy over the true identity  of Kids in Dust, suffice to say fans of the genres represented by Dig it Up! are in for a massive surprise come 3.30pm April 22nd.

And joining Kids in Dust as the latest additions for Dig It Up! Sydney will be audio / visual collective Sounds of Seduction plus DJ’s Jack Shit, Silky Doyle, Andy Travers, Nic Dalton and Stuart Coupe all brought on board to keep the party going.

In other Sydney Dig it Up! news all reserved seating tickets have now sold-out. General admission or dance floor tickets are all that remain - who’s complaining?

Full performance schedules for both Sydney and Melbourne will be revealed very shortly. Until then tickets for both Sydney and Melbourne and also the Adelaide Dig it Up! are on-sale from http://www.digitup.net.au

‘Gold Watch: 20 Golden Greats’ is out NOW!

You KNOW what to do!

I also added the second video in the continuing track-by-track saga on Facebook - hey, look over to your right —->

‘Gold Watch: 20 Golden Greats’ out this week.

Friday 16 March is the day to mark in your calendars.

I just posted a video of myself talking about the story behind one of the album’s songs “next door” on Facebook (see adjacent FB panel). I’ll be posting a new clip there every couple of days until I’ve covered the whole album track-by-track. It’s an instant course of Hoodoo Gurus history - university lecturers take note!

Meanwhile, there are still tickets for the last few ‘Dig It Up!’ concerts available (Melb/Syd/Adel.). Get ‘em now because this event is NOT TO BE MISSED. There are lots of disappointed people in Perth and Brisbane who waited that little bit too long to buy their tickets - but YOU don’t have to. All of these concerts are gonna sell out so I’m giving you fair notice (yet again). Get online and just DO IT, BABY, DO IT!       Click through to buy tickets at http://digitup.net.au/

Anyone who comes to these shows will have a lifetime of bragging rights.

You know it.

P.S: Further to the addition of the incredible Steve Wynn and Linda Pimon to the Dig It Up! bill, I can tell you they will be joined by Keith Streng and Ken Fox of The Fleshtones halfway through their set, making them into a rockin’ four-piece. Check out the clip I posted on our FB page for a taste of what you can expect.

P.P.S: There’s gonna be some REAL surprises on the night too (sorry, can’t say more).

Dig It Up! - the latest announcement.

Fantastic news! At the Melbourne and Sydney Dig It Up! concerts Steve Wynn, the singer/songwriter for L.A. Paisley Underground legends The Dream Syndicate (also frontman for The Miracle Three and The Baseball Project) will be performing in duo mode with Linda Pimon on drums. Steve and Linda have been musical partners-in-crime on a string of brilliant albums and we are thrilled that they are joining us for these shows.

Also added to the Sydney concert are Kim Salmon and Spencer P. Jones who require no introduction to lovers of fine music. Between them, they have been responsible for some of the most significant music to come out anywhere and of course were the two-headed guitar monster that put the fire in the belly of The Beasts Of Bourbon at that band’s creative peak. Another welcome addition to the Sydney concert is The Gooch Palms, a fantastic new band from Sydney whose self-described “shitpop” will add a welcome flavour to the proceedings.

There will be more announcements for Melbourne and Sydney (and maybe some surprises on the day). Perth and Brisbane have already sold out and the Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney shows won’t be far behind.

Folks, these aren’t just concerts - this is MUSICAL HISTORY!

Feb 09 2012

The Dig It Up! concerts are selling like hotcakes, I’m very pleased to say. Brisbane and Perth are already nearly sold out and Sydney HAS sold out of the most-expensive Gold Reserve seating and the cheaper General Admission tickets are flying out the door.

And why wouldn’t they??!! This is a once-in-a-blue-moon opportunity (I refrained from saying once-in-a-lifetime - but it is) to see a heap of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll bands EVER in one place - alright, TWO places (Sydney & Melbourne): The Sonics, The Fleshtones, Redd Kross, Died Pretty, The 5678s, The Hard Ons…I could go on. It is the perfect music festival: right size, right taste, right on!

I’ve seen ALL of these bands live, most of them recently, and can vouch for them ALL being the 100%-pure (unadulterated) “good stuff”. Seeing The Sonics in particular was a thrill for me: they are one of the most influential punk bands of all time and their songs have been covered by everybody (for example, The Cramps recorded ‘Strychnine’ and also “borrowed” the riff from ‘He’s Waitin’ ’ for their song ‘New Kind Of Kick’). I saw The Sonics perform a couple of years ago in New York and Gerry Roslie, their singer/keyboard player, sounded just as raunchy as he did on their original recordings, which are some of the wildest sounds ever committed to vinyl, doncha know? I don’t know how he did it then and I don’t know how he does it now - I’m just glad he can!
